After some months of testing, we eventually got this new wiki started. Some content is already available on Quantitative Archaeology Wiki.
I got off Wikia and chose to start a new wiki on my webserver using Dokuwiki. Dokuwiki is cool, not only because it runs on text files and doesn’t need MySQL or another database. It’s good because it was NOT designed with an encyclopedia in mind, like MediaWiki is. Markup is even simpler and loading of images directly into pages works like a charm. Furthermore, I can write pages while offline, even hundreds of pages, and then upload them with FTP to the server, as plain text files.
Besides the Digging Numbers
exercises replica, Loïc Jammet-Renal uploaded a summary of his master thesis with R code that implements the creation of Ford’s Battleships diagrams. The result is very good-looking.
.
I hope more people can join this wiki and help building a good repository for students in Quantitative Archaeology.
